One of the greatest experiences my son and our family have had on his baseball journey was traveling to Cooperstown for the iconic youth baseball tournaments—first to Dreams Park and then to All Star Village. These trips were filled with unforgettable moments, life lessons, and a newfound appreciation for the opportunities that come when you stay prepared and say “yes” to new adventures.
The Last-Minute Opportunity That Changed Everything
Our first trip to Cooperstown was anything but planned. Unlike most families who had a year to prepare, we had only a couple of months to pull everything together. My son had an outstanding baseball season, but as a member of the Development Group in his rec ball league, he wasn’t initially selected to play on an All-Star team. We were disappointed, knowing he had earned a spot, but it seemed like the door had closed for that season.
Then, out of nowhere, we got the call. A player on a local All-Star team had been injured, and the coach was looking for a replacement. My son jumped at the opportunity and performed exceptionally well in the summer tournament in Los Angeles. His hard work and determination paid off—he was invited to continue playing with the team and, ultimately, to join them on their trip to Cooperstown Dreams Park!
Raising Funds & Making It Happen
With such short notice, we needed to raise the funds quickly. Thankfully, with the help of family—grandparents, aunts, and uncles—we were able to make it happen. The experience was worth every bit of the effort.
My son, wearing his #44 jersey (the inspiration behind 44 Sports Travel), had one of the most incredible moments of his baseball journey. In one unforgettable game, he went 4-for-4 with four home runs! From not making the All-Star team to crushing it on one of the biggest youth baseball stages—dreams really do come true. This trip became a defining moment in his life, showing him the value of perseverance, belief, and making the most of every opportunity.
Returning to Cooperstown – All Star Village
The following year, we had the chance to go back—this time to Cooperstown All Star Village. With more time to plan, we were better prepared for the experience. My son started the tournament with two home runs, but his favorite part of the trip wasn’t just the on-field success—it was trading pins, making new friends, and soaking in the magic of being part of something bigger than himself.
Why 44 Sports Travel?
After going through these experiences, I knew I wanted to help other families navigate the logistics of travel, fundraising, and planning for Cooperstown and other youth sports trips.
