In sports—and in life—you never know when your opportunity is going to come.
It might be the next play.It might be next week.Or it might be a moment no one else sees coming.
That’s why readiness isn’t something you turn on… it’s something you live in.
A Lesson from Tom Brady
Before he became one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, Tom Brady was just a college player at University of Michigan battling for reps.
At one point, he was frustrated.
He felt like he wasn’t getting enough opportunities in practice. Not enough reps. Not enough chances to prove himself.
So he went to a sports psychologist and voiced his frustration.
The response changed everything:
“Stop worrying about how many reps you’re getting. If you get three reps… make the most of those three.”
That mindset shift is powerful.
Instead of focusing on what he wasn’t getting, Brady learned to maximize what he was given.
And we all know how that story turned out.
The Readiness Mindset
Readiness means:
Showing up prepared—even when no one is watching
Giving your best effort—no matter how small the role
Staying mentally locked in—whether you’re starting or sitting
Trusting the process—when results aren’t immediate
It’s easy to be ready when you’re the star.
It’s harder—but more important—to be ready when you’re waiting.
In Season & Out of Season
Readiness isn’t just for game day.
In season → Stay sharp, stay focused, stay disciplined
Out of season → Build, grow, and develop your foundation
Opportunity doesn’t send a calendar invite.
It shows up unexpectedly—and only those who are ready can step into it.
Faith & Readiness
As athletes of faith, readiness goes deeper than performance.
It’s about your heart posture.
Colossians 3:23"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
When you approach every rep, every drill, every moment like it matters to God—you’re always ready.
How to Implement This as an Athlete
Here’s how to live out readiness daily:
1. Win Your RepsWhether it’s 3 reps or 30—treat each one like it matters.
2. Control What You Can ControlEffort. Attitude. Focus. Energy.
3. Stay Ready MentallyVisualize success before your opportunity comes.
4. Build Habits DailyPreparation creates confidence.
5. Trust God’s TimingYour moment will come—be ready when it does.
Final Thought
You don’t rise to the occasion…You fall back on your preparation.
At 44 Performance Pathway, we help athletes build that readiness—mentally, physically, and spiritually—so when opportunity comes, they’re not surprised… they’re prepared.
